Heavy Snowfall Re-opens the Resort for Spectacular Skiing

The recent heavy snowfalls hitting Sierra Nevada, have led the resort organiser's, Cetursa S.A. to make further decisions to extend the season by reopening the lifts for skiing this coming Thursday 24th April. Previously they had announced the opening for just the weekend of the 26th and 27th but with more snow on the mountain now than during the whole season, there was little choice but to succumb to popular demand!!

Prices are being kept to low season rates, deep fresh powder snow and stunning piste conditions will make this a season end to remember!!

SIERRA NEVADA GETS WHITER!

The recent storms hitting the south of Spain have brought a good initial covering of snow to the mountains. From Tuesday night through to the end of Wednesday, mild temperatures saw the snowline appear at around 2,700m, (or from Borreguiles upwards). Thursday saw temperatures drop significantly and by lunch time it was already snowing lightly in the village base, (2100m). Check out the WEBCAMS.

The intentions of opening on the 1st December are now looking much more likely to happen!

FLIGHTS INTO GRANADA FROM THE UK UNDER THREAT OF PULLING OUT

Whilst it has been confirmed recently that Monarch airlines are pulling their flight programme out of Granada airport, there are now rumours that Ryanair may do the same!!

Granada airport not only serves as an incredible convenience for skiing in Sierra Nevada, (by making it one of the shortest transfers to a ski resort to be found anywhere!), but also for accessing one of Spain's most up and coming regional destinations of outstanding natural beauty. It has also proven a quieter and smoother operating gateway alternative to many travellers compared to the heavily expanding airport at Malaga, just an hour's drive away.

As Sierra Essence has a high percentage of its clients who use Granada airport as their choice of gateway we felt it important to offer the opportunity to anyone who feels strongly about this to sign the petition found at the following web link. It is very simple to do and requires only a couple of basic personal details, (name, email etc.), taking no more than 5 minutes of your time.

Let's do our part to keep Granada on the international flight plan!:
